Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability in the world, it effects approximately 48,000 Australians every year.

         

THE NATIONAL STROKE RESEARCH INSTITUTE (NSRI)

The NSRI is located at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital in Melbourne Australia and is directed by Professor Geoffrey Donnan. The NSRI has played a key role in national and international trials of treatment for stroke which have greatly improved services and knowledge about stroke prevention and treatment. more»

To address the problem of stroke across its entire spectrum, the NSRI conducts research in the field of stroke at the highest level in a vertically integrated fashion from divisions of basic science, through to epidemiology and public health.

 
VISITING INTERNATIONAL FELLOWS
The NSRI has hosted a number of International Fellows in recent years. The program has benefited the NSRI by bringing  the perspectives
   
of other countries to stroke research, and the fellows have benefited from their research experience.

The NSRI has an increasing number of stroke research study possibilities. We welcome and support research fellows to complete their studies with us.
